Pakistan Central Bank Chief Projects Stronger Economic Growth Than IMF Forecasts
Governor Jameel Ahmad projects growth of 4.75 percent this fiscal year despite IMF downgrades. He cites resilient agriculture and easing financial conditions.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has increased its gross domestic product growth forecast for the 2026 fiscal year to a range of 3.75% to 4.75%, with Governor Jameel Ahmad noting that the economy could reach the upper end of that projection. This upward revision, announced during the SBP's January meeting, represents a 0.5 percentage point increase over the previous forecast range. The adjustment is a critical development for Pakistan
PK as it manages its balance-of-payments outlook and shapes its monetary and external financing policies while remaining under a $7 billion programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
