Oracle Begins Cutting Thousands of Jobs for AI Strategy
Oracle is cutting thousands of jobs to fund its artificial intelligence push. The company expects restructuring costs to reach 2.1 billion dollars this year.
Oracle Corporation has reportedly begun cutting thousands of jobs as it shifts its focus toward artificial intelligence infrastructure. While the company has not officially confirmed the layoffs, reports from sources familiar with the matter and employee discussions on platforms like Reddit and Blind indicate significant internal disruption. The restructuring follows a March disclosure where the company projected up to $2.1 billion in costs for its fiscal 2026 plan, primarily for severance and related expenses. This strategic pivot aims to enhance competition against cloud rivals such as Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com, Inc.. Despite the workforce reduction, company shares rose over 5% on Tuesday afternoon, though they remain down approximately 29% for the year. As of May 2025, the company employed about 162,000 people. These cuts are part of a broader trend in the tech industry, where over 40,000 jobs have been lost this year according to Layoffs.fyi. Other major players, including Meta Platforms, Inc., have also recently reduced staff to reallocate resources toward AI development, with reports suggesting further significant cuts may be planned.
