Oil prices slipped on January 30, 2026, as signs emerged that the United States USUSmay engage in dialogue with Iran IRIRover its nuclear programme. This development reduced immediate market concerns about supply disruptions that could have resulted from a potential American military strike. Brent crude futures fell $1.10 to $69.61 a barrel by 0707 GMT, while the March Brent contract, which expires later today, saw its more active April replacement slide $1.29 to $68.30. Similarly, U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.25 to $64.17 a barrel, following gains in the previous session.
The price decline occurred after a week of heightened Middle East tensions and a military buildup by the United Statesthat had pushed both benchmarks to multi-week highs. On the previous trading day, Brent had risen 3.4 percent to its highest point since July 31, while WTI gained 3.4 percent to settle at its highest level since September 26. Despite the Friday dip, oil prices remain on track for significant monthly gains, with Brent up 14.5 percent and WTI set to rise 12 percent in January.
