Oil prices fall as expected inventory growth offsets production halts in Kazakhstan

Brent and WTI crude prices fell as anticipated increases in U.S. stockpiles and geopolitical tensions outweighed temporary production outages in Kazakhstan.

洞察:
Oil prices declined on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as market expectations for a build-up in crude stockpiles in the United States USUSoutweighed temporary production interruptions in Kazakhstan KZKZ. Brent Crude Oil futures fell 76 cents, or 1.2 percent, to reach $64.16 per barrel at 0445 GMT, while WTI Crude Oil dropped 60 cents, or 1 percent, to $59.76 per barrel. This decline follows a session on Tuesday where both Brent Crude Oiland WTI Crude Oilclosed nearly $1 per barrel or 1.5 percent higher.
The downward price pressure was primarily driven by a Reuters poll of six analysts, which estimated that crude inventories in the United Statesrose by an average of 1.7 million barrels in the week ending January 16. Because of a U.S. federal holiday on Monday, official data releases have been delayed by one day. The American Petroleum Institute is scheduled to release its weekly inventory data at 4:30 p.m. EST (2130 GMT) on January 22, 2026, and the Energy Information Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Energy, will provide its report at 12 p.m. EST (1700 GMT) on January 23, 2026.
