Oil Prices Rise as US and Iran Tensions Impact Shipping
Oil prices rose on Monday as the U.S. and Iran exchanged threats. While some ships passed the Strait of Hormuz, the market remains tight amid supply concerns.
Oil prices climbed in volatile trading on Monday as geopolitical rhetoric between the United States and Iran intensified, overshadowing indirect talks aimed at de-escalating regional hostilities. Brent Crude Oil futures settled at $109.77 per barrel, an increase of 0.68%, while West Texas Oil futures rose 0.78% to finish at $112.40.
The market remains on edge regarding the status of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane responsible for one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supply. Although Pakistan presented a framework for peace, Tehran has resisted reopening the waterway immediately following threats of severe consequences from Washington if a deal is not reached.
