This new allocation builds upon a previously announced long-term plan to invest 1.62 trillion crowns ($167 billion) between 2025 and 2036, reflecting both regional security needs and pressure from the United States to meet NATO commitments.

"We are allocating a significant increase in resources to the long-term plan, while also carefully weighing the priorities needed to rapidly strengthen Norways defence capabilities," Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere told a press conference.
