Dangote Refinery Increases Fuel Exports Across Africa
Dangote Refinery increased fuel exports to 214,000 barrels per day in March. Middle East supply shifts allowed the plant to expand its reach across Africa.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has capitalized on the geopolitical shock in the Middle East, gaining significant leverage as the conflict involving Iran disrupts traditional fuel supply routes to Africa. This shift has curtailed the flow of cheap imports that have long dominated the regional market, allowing the Lagos-based facility to step up its gasoline exports.
Data from the tanker-tracking firm Kpler indicates that clean petroleum product exports from Nigeria—encompassing gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and jet fuel—have climbed to approximately 214,000 barrels per day (bpd) so far in March. This marks a substantial increase from the February average of 100,000 bpd. Specifically, shipments to other African nations have more than doubled, rising from 38,000 bpd to about 90,000 bpd.
