NEXA RESOURCES SA brought a fire under control at its Cajamarquilla zinc smelter in Peru on May 13 after four workers were injured. The facility is the largest zinc smelter in Latin America. The incident occurs as the miner prepares $22 million in planned renovations for the site scheduled for 2026.
### Emergency Protocols and Worker Safety The blaze began in the morning and affected electrical equipment at a transmission substation, according to local media reports citing firefighters. Nexa Resources confirmed it evacuated the area and activated emergency safety protocols to contain the fire. One Nexa employee and three workers from contractor Hitachi were injured during the incident.
