New York Fed survey shows inflation expectations falling as labor market outlook improves

Americans reported lower near-term inflation expectations in January alongside improved views on the job market. Households remain cautious about credit access.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's January Survey of Consumer Expectations, released today, showed that one-year inflation expectations among American households fell to 3.1%, down from 3.4% in December. This 0.3 percentage-point retreat in one-year inflation expectations was accompanied by reports of an improved hiring outlook, reflecting a more positive sentiment regarding the labor market across the US USUS.
