MPS and Mediobanca Set to Approve Full Merger Terms
The boards of MPS and Mediobanca meet today to approve the final terms of their full merger. This includes the share swap ratio for the remaining 14% stake.
The boards of Italy's Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) and Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario S.p.A. are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to approve the financial terms of their full merger. This transaction involves MPS acquiring the remaining 14% of its partner that it does not already own, finalizing a major consolidation process in the Italian banking sector. MPS, which was bailed out by the state in 2017 and subsequently re-privatized between 2023 and 2024, took over Mediobanca last year in a 16 billion euro ($19 billion) deal. Through this acquisition, MPS has also become the largest shareholder in Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A..
