New Rules Could Free 320 Billion Dollars for US Banks
Morgan Stanley analysts estimate that 36 US banks could see excess capital rise to 320 billion dollars. The softened rules may boost lending and buybacks.
Major financial institutions in the United States could potentially unlock up to $320 billion in capital following the introduction of revised regulatory draft rules. According to a recent analysis by MORGAN STANLEY, these softened requirements represent a significant shift in the banking landscape.
Analysts led by Manan Gosalia indicated that 36 banks are projected to hold excess capital totaling $320 billion once the new standards are implemented. This figure marks a 20% increase over the current excess capital level of $266 billion. The clarity provided by these updated rules is viewed as a primary catalyst for the broader banking sector.
