Moldova Ends Energy State of Emergency
The parliament of Moldova has voted to terminate the national energy state of emergency effective this Saturday. The emergency measures were originally implemented following targeted military actions by Russia in neighboring Ukraine, which severely compromised the power infrastructure essential for the country's energy security.
Legislators in the 101-member chamber approved the motion with 69 votes in favor. The crisis was triggered in March when attacks disabled the Isaccea-Vulcanesti power line. This critical piece of infrastructure transmits electricity from Romania to the Moldovan grid by crossing a 40-kilometer stretch of Ukrainian territory. At its peak capacity, this single line accounts for approximately 70% of the nation's total electricity requirements.
