The Middle East conflict has resulted in significant destruction to energy infrastructure, with repair costs estimated to reach as high as $58 billion. According to a report by Rystad Energy, oil and gas facilities alone account for approximately $50 billion of this total. This figure represents a substantial increase from an initial projection of $25 billion made three weeks ago, reflecting the extensive damage sustained prior to the April 8 ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
Repair work does not create new capacity. It redirects existing capacity, and that redirection will be felt in project delays and into inflation far beyond the Middle East.
