Mexico halts US live animal imports over screwworm cases
Mexico is blocking most live animal imports from the United States after screwworm cases were found in Texas. The move aims to protect herds in northern Mexico.
Mexico suspended most live animal imports from the United States on Tuesday evening following confirmed screwworm cases in Texas and New Mexico. The ban covers cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, and goats after the United States detected five cases since June 3. Mexico implemented the suspension in coordination with the United States Department of Agriculture to prevent the spread of the flesh-eating parasite.
