MetLife Q1 Profit Rises on Strong Asia Insurance Demand

METLIFE INC grew first-quarter adjusted earnings 18% to $1.59 billion as insurance demand surged across its global markets. The result beat the $1.35 billion recorded a year earlier, equivalent to $2.42 per share. Diversified gains in Asia and group benefits offset a volatile macroeconomic environment for the insurer.
### Asia and Group Benefits Drive Growth MetLife's Asia business saw adjusted earnings surge 31% during the quarter. This growth followed strong life insurance underwriting and higher volume in key regional markets. Sales in the Asia unit rose 22% on a constant currency basis, led by performance in Japan and South Korea.
