Major central banks and commercial lenders move Agora project to user testing phase

A group of leading central banks and over 40 commercial lenders are transitioning the Agora digital payments initiative into a six month user testing phase. The project aims to modernize international settlements through tokenization.

The Bank for International Settlements, based in Switzerland CHCH, has announced that the Agora project is transitioning from theoretical development to a dedicated user testing phase. This initiative, which brings together several of the world’s most influential central banks and more than 40 major commercial lenders, focuses on the wholesale market for bank-to-bank payments. Andréa Maechler andr a maechler, a senior official at the BIS, has signaled that this step is a milestone in the effort to improve the speed and cost of moving money across borders.
