Three Major Australian Banks Forecast Rate Hike Next Week
Major Australian banks now expect a rate hike to 4.1% next Tuesday. This follows RBA warnings that rising oil prices are driving up national inflation risks.
A growing number of economists in Australia have revised their interest rate forecasts, with three of the nation's four largest lenders now predicting a hike next week. Analysts from WESTPAC BANKING CORP, NATIONAL AUSTRALIA BANK LTD, and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia adjusted their outlooks following a stern inflation warning from a senior central bank official. Financial markets have responded by pricing in a 75% probability that the Reserve Bank of Australia will increase the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.1% during its upcoming Tuesday meeting. This shift comes as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East drive oil prices higher, complicating the domestic inflation landscape.
