US Airlines Call for End to Shutdown to Pay TSA Workers
Airline CEOs urge Congress to end a 29-day shutdown and pay TSA staff. They warn that unpaid security officers and long lines threaten spring break travel.
Leaders of major carriers in the United States have issued a formal plea to Congress to resolve a 29-day partial government shutdown that has left approximately 50,000 airport security officers working without pay. The chief executive officers warned that the ongoing funding impasse is causing significant disruptions to air travel during the busy spring break season.
In an open letter addressed to lawmakers, the heads of American Airlines Group Inc., United Airlines Holdings, Inc., Delta Air Lines, Inc., Southwest Airlines Co., JetBlue Airways Corporation, and Alaska Air Group, Inc. highlighted the growing strain on the aviation system.
