This milestone coincides with European FinTech funding reaching parity with the United States for the first time in history. Between 2022 and 2025, investment in European FinTech grew by 37%, while funding in major American hubs saw a 13% decline. Both regions now account for approximately 40 billion euros in investment each. While the overall volume has balanced, structural challenges remain for the European market. Late-stage funding continues to rely heavily on foreign capital, as every European investment round exceeding one billion euros during this period was led by American investors. A significant factor in this disparity is the conservative allocation of capital by domestic institutions. European pension funds currently allocate only 0.02% of their assets to venture capital, a figure that lags significantly behind the 1.9% rate seen in the United States. Finch Capital estimates that bridging this gap could unlock an additional 37.5 billion euros for the sector annually. Europe has demonstrated particular strength in regulatory-intensive verticals. Software firms focusing on the CFO office and regulatory compliance have achieved a 2.54x return on investment, nearly double the 1.31x return seen in the American market. Ghei also noted that corporate investment opportunities are being seized more aggressively by companies across the Atlantic, though local giants are beginning to participate, such as the investment by ASML Holding N.V. in the artificial intelligence firm Mistral. > European capital exists and reliance on U.S. investors is not a necessity. As the landscape shifts, the focus for European policymakers may turn toward incentivizing domestic institutional investment to sustain this newly found leadership in the global FinTech ecosystem.
