Keiko Fujimori Leads Tight Peru Presidential Election

Keiko Fujimori leads the presidential runoff with 50.48% of the vote after officials processed over 90% of ballots. Leftist congressman Roberto Sanchez trails with 49.52%, a gap of fewer than 200,000 votes, on the second day of counting. The current tally follows a statistical tie in early polling that showed Sanchez leading by 0.6 percentage points.
Official tallies on Monday morning showed Fujimori ahead of Sanchez, who maintains strong support in rural areas. Pollster Ipsos previously indicated a statistical tie on Sunday evening, initially placing Sanchez at 50.3%. The race remains too close to call as officials process the final 10% of ballots.
