The Italian biopharmaceutical firm Kedrion has issued a warning regarding potential disruptions to the delivery of life-saving plasma-based medicines to Iran due to ongoing regional instability in the Middle East. The company, headquartered in Italy, is currently navigating logistical hurdles caused by shipping complications in the Strait of Hormuz.

Chief Executive Ugo Di Francesco highlighted that the firm has been compelled to transport immunoglobulins to the region via land routes. This shift in strategy comes as rising fuel prices threaten to make logistics costs prohibitively expensive, potentially impacting the supply chain for rare disease treatments.
