Jefferies Expects Under $20 Million Hit from MFS Collapse
Jefferies expects a hit of less than $20 million from its exposure to MFS. The bank today dismissed a $126.4 million lawsuit from Western Alliance as false.
Jefferies Financial Group Inc. announced on Monday that it expects a financial impact of less than $20 million from its exposure to the collapsed mortgage lender Market Financial Solutions (MFS). The disclosure follows the recent failure of the firm in the United Kingdom, which has renewed concerns regarding potential losses within the private credit industry and the possibility of further defaults among specialized lenders.
According to the investment bank, one of its European subsidiaries had extended 103 million pounds ($137.42 million) to MFS through a warehouse facility. This credit line was secured by specific bridge loans managed by the mortgage provider. Jefferies addressed the situation to mitigate fears of broader contagion following the collapse of the little-known lender last month.
