Wholesale inflation in Japan slowed for the third consecutive month in February, indicating a potential easing of cost pressures for domestic firms. According to data released on Wednesday, the corporate goods price index (CGPI), which tracks the prices businesses charge one another for goods and services, rose 2.0% from a year earlier. This figure was slightly below the median market forecast of a 2.1% increase and followed a revised 2.3% gain in January.

While domestic wholesale price growth moderated, the impact of a weak yen continues to influence the broader economic landscape by lifting the cost of imported materials. The yen-based import price index climbed 2.8% in February compared to the previous year, a significant acceleration from the revised 0.7% gain recorded in January. The data suggests that the persistent weakness of the national currency will keep import costs elevated, even as broader inflationary pressures show signs of stabilization.
