Wholesale inflation in Japan moderated for a third consecutive month in February as government fuel subsidies helped mitigate the impact of rising commodity costs. However, analysts suggest this cooling period may be brief as an oil price shock stemming from the conflict in Iran threatens to reignite inflationary pressures across the economy.

The corporate goods price index (CGPI), which tracks the prices companies charge one another for goods and services, rose 2.0% in February compared to a year earlier. This represents a slowdown from the 2.3% increase seen in January and came in slightly below the market forecast of 2.1%. While these figures do not fully account for the recent military strikes involving the United States and Israel, a Bank of Japan official noted that prices for nonferrous metals have already climbed due to escalating geopolitical risks.
