Wholesale inflation in Japan rose sharply in March as conflict in the Middle East pushed up input costs for businesses. This acceleration in price pressure highlights mounting economic challenges that may prompt the central bank to consider raising interest rates in the near future.
The corporate goods price index (CGPI), which measures the prices companies charge one another for goods and services, increased 2.6% in March compared to the same month a year earlier. This figure exceeded the median market forecast of 2.4% and accelerated from the revised 2.1% growth seen in February.
