Japan to Discuss Mythos AI Security With Major Lenders
Japan's financial watchdog will meet with top lenders on Friday to discuss risks from the Mythos AI model. The talks include the central bank and stock market.
Japan's financial regulator is scheduled to meet with the nation's largest banking institutions this Friday to address concerns surrounding the Mythos artificial intelligence model developed by Anthropic. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama announced the meeting on Wednesday, noting that the Financial Services Agency will lead the discussions.
The session will include representatives from the country's top lenders, including Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc, and Mizuho Financial Group Inc. Additionally, officials from the Bank of Japan/The and the Tokyo Stock Exchange are expected to participate in the exchange of views.

Minister Katayama emphasized the importance of a coordinated response among the nation's financial leadership to assess the current technological landscape.
"We will bring together the core members who bear the greatest responsibility to share assessments of the current situation and exchange views, including issues that have been flagged in various parts of the international financial community."
The Mythos model was originally designed for defensive cybersecurity tasks. However, its sophisticated capabilities have raised significant security concerns within the financial sector. Anthropic recently disclosed that a preview of the model uncovered thousands of major vulnerabilities across every major operating system and web browser, highlighting potential threats to traditional software infrastructure.
Regulators across Asia have begun implementing measures to mitigate the risks posed by such advanced AI technologies. The upcoming meeting in Tokyo represents a proactive step by Japanese authorities to evaluate the impact of these developments on the stability and security of the domestic financial system.
