Italy emerged as a unique success story among major European Union economies in 2025, recording a 7.2% year-on-year surge in exports to the United States despite a challenging tariff environment. According to a report on industry competitiveness from the national statistics agency ISTAT, the Italian performance stood in stark contrast to its regional peers.
While Italy saw growth, other major exporters struggled significantly. Exports from Germany and Spain both dropped by more than 9% over the same period, while France recorded a slight contraction of 0.9%.
