Iraq shuts Shalamcheh border crossing after airstrikes
Iraqi officials closed the Shalamcheh crossing after airstrikes killed one citizen. The route is a vital supply line for food imports from neighboring Iran.
Iraq has closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran following airstrikes on the Iranian side that killed an Iraqi citizen and wounded several others. The closure, reported on Saturday, has cut off a vital supply route for food and vegetables, raising concerns over potential market disruptions.
Security sources indicated that the strikes hit a passenger reception area. In addition to the one fatality, at least five Iraqis were seriously injured and are currently in critical condition. Iraqi police recovered the victim's body, while the wounded were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
