IonQ raises annual revenue forecast on strong demand
IonQ increased its annual revenue guidance to between $260 million and $270 million after reporting first-quarter sales that beat analyst estimates. Despite the improved outlook, shares fell 6% in extended trading as investors weighed technology viability and path to profitability.
IONQ INC raised its annual revenue forecast to a range of $260 million to $270 million on May 6. The updated guidance exceeds the previous outlook of $225 million to $245 million as demand for quantum computing platforms scales. Investors remain cautious about the path to commercial viability, sending shares down 6% in late evening trading.
### Revenue Growth Outpaces Profitability Targets The quantum hardware provider reported first-quarter revenue of $64.7 million, surpassing the $49.7 million average estimate compiled by LSEG. Despite the top-line beat, IonQ is prioritizing technical expansion over immediate bottom-line results. CEO Niccolo de Masi told Reuters that the company is focused on growing R&D investments to support long-term revenue growth.
