Inpex moves to block Ichthys LNG strike action
Japanese energy firm Inpex is applying to the Fair Work Commission to stop protected industrial action by the Offshore Alliance at its Ichthys LNG sites. The company warns that potential supply disruptions could impact Asian buyers and domestic gas markets amid heightened global price volatility.
INPEX CORP will petition Australia's workplace tribunal on Tuesday to halt industrial action at its Ichthys liquefied natural gas facilities. The move aims to prevent a supply disruption that could further strain global energy markets already impacted by conflict in Iran. The outcome determines the stability of 9.3 million metric tons of annual LNG output during a period of 75% price surges.
### Escalation at Ichthys Sites The Offshore Alliance confirmed it will ramp up strikes at three Ichthys sites and in Darwin starting Thursday. This escalation follows the failure of facilitated bargaining at the Fair Work Commission to resolve disputes over pay and career progression. Approximately 400 workers plan to implement a ban on loading liquefied natural gas and condensate cargoes.
