German State Data Signals Rise in National Inflation
Inflation rose in several German states this month as higher energy costs impacted the economy. Analysts expect the national rate to reach 3.1 percent today.
Germany saw inflation rise in three key states in April, signaling a national acceleration to a forecast 3.1%. National inflation stood at 2.8% in March, and economists polled by Reuters expect the harmonized rate to climb 30 basis points. Rising price pressures in Europe's largest economy may complicate European Central Bank plans to lower interest rates this summer.
### Energy Costs Drive Price Acceleration In Lower Saxony, inflation accelerated to 3.0% from 2.6% in March. Bavaria recorded a rise to 2.9% from 2.8%, while Baden-Wuerttemberg saw prices climb to 2.6% from 2.5%. North Rhine-Westphalia reported an unchanged consumer price index of 2.7%.
