Infineon Executive Urges Europe to Expand Chip Factories
Infineon executive Thomas Altenmueller says Europe must build larger automated fabs to compete with China. He stressed scaling up existing profitable plants.
Europe's semiconductor industry must significantly increase its investment in automated, large-scale 300-millimeter wafer fabrication facilities to remain competitive against growing international pressure. Speaking at an industry conference in Poland, an executive from Infineon Technologies AG highlighted the rapid advancements of competitors in the power and analog chip markets.
Thomas Altenmueller, Vice President of Manufacturing Analytics at Infineon, warned that manufacturers in China are quickly gaining ground in sectors that have historically been dominated by European firms. This shift is largely attributed to export restrictions on advanced semiconductor manufacturing tools, such as the EUV lithography systems produced by ASML Holding N.V..
