Indonesia police named Musim Mas a criminal suspect over environmental damage valued at 187.8 billion rupiah ($10.7 million). The Singapore-based palm oil group is alleged to have cleared protected buffer zones near the Air Hitam River in Riau province. The criminal designation carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
Riau police official Ade Kuncoro Ridwan said Musim Mas planted palm trees too close to the river, eroding soil and triggering a landslide. Investigations into the group's activities began in January 2025. The provincial government published the statement on Monday.
