Indonesia Screens Candidates for Financial Regulator Posts
Lawmakers are interviewing candidates for top regulator roles today following recent market turmoil. The new leadership will oversee critical governance reforms.
Lawmakers in Indonesia are scheduled to begin interviewing candidates on Wednesday for top positions at the Financial Services Authority, known as the OJK, following a period of significant market instability. The parliamentary financial commission is moving to fill five vacancies created by the sudden resignations of the agency’s chair, deputy chair, and senior capital market supervisors on January 30.
The leadership crisis followed a warning from MSCI Inc. that it might downgrade the nation's status to a frontier market due to transparency and governance issues. This warning triggered a selloff that erased approximately $120 billion from the equity market, a situation further complicated when Moody's Corporation downgraded the outlook for the country's sovereign credit rating.
