ID’s investment ministry held a meeting today with Agincourt Resources to discuss the legal and environmental aspects of operations at the Martabe gold mine. The discussions follow a decision by authorities in Jakarta to revoke the mine’s permits due to environmental violations. To manage the site moving forward, the government has established a state entity, PT Perusahaan Mineral Nasional (Perminas), which is slated to take over the Martabe operations.
The permit revocation at Martabe is part of a wider enforcement action that has impacted 28 firms across Indonesia
ID. This regulatory crackdown follows severe flooding in Sumatra that resulted in at least 1,200 fatalities, raising the profile of environmental oversight in the region. Senior officials, including President Prabowo Subianto and Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, have indicated that the government will handle the transition with caution, emphasizing that all decisions will be based strictly on the law.
