Indian Markets Drop on Oil Spike and HDFC Bank Resignation
Indian shares are set to fall as oil prices rise above $110. A hawkish Fed and the resignation of HDFC Bank's chairman further weigh on investor sentiment.
Indian equity markets are set to open sharply lower on Thursday as global headwinds from the Middle East and the United States weigh on investor sentiment. GIFT Nifty futures were trading at 23,313 as of 07:12 a.m. IST, suggesting that the Nifty 50 will open well below Wednesday's close of 23,777.8.
The primary concern for markets is a significant escalation in the conflict involving Iran. Tehran launched strikes on multiple energy facilities across the Middle East on Wednesday following an attack on the South Pars gas field. This sector is part of the world's largest natural gas deposit, which is shared between Tehran and Qatar, a major ally of the United States. The widening hostilities, which also involve Israel, have rattled global markets, sending other Asian indices down by approximately 2% on the day.
