Indian shares set to open higher as Airtel profit rises
Indian equities are set to open higher on Thursday as markets attempt to extend a recovery. While Bharti Airtel reported strong results, sentiment remains weighed down by record foreign outflows and high oil prices.
India's Nifty 50 is set to open above 23,412.60 on Thursday morning as GIFT Nifty futures rose to 23,545. The index gained 0.1% on Wednesday following a 4% decline over the previous four trading sessions. Investors are weighing a technical rebound against $23.22 billion in year-to-date foreign capital outflows and record rupee weakness.
Foreign portfolio investors have sold $23.22 billion in Indian equities during 2026, surpassing the total record outflows seen in 2025. HDFC Securities deputy vice president Nandish Shah said the current rebound reflects oversold conditions rather than a shift in market sentiment. The rupee reached an all-time low on Wednesday.
