Indian Stocks Muted as US Strikes Dent Peace Hopes
The Nifty 50 and Sensex remained nearly unchanged on Tuesday as fresh U.S. strikes in the Middle East tempered expectations for a swift peace agreement with Iran. Rising crude oil prices and upcoming derivatives expirations further weighed on investor sentiment across major sectors.
India's UTI NIFTY 50 ETF rose 0.11% to 24,057.95 on Tuesday morning as U.S. strikes in the Middle East dampened peace hopes. The slight gain followed a jump to two-week highs on Monday when investors anticipated a diplomatic resolution. Renewed geopolitical tension threatens energy stability for the world's third-largest oil importer as crude prices climb.
The UTI BSE SENSEX ETF added 0.06% to 76,535.45. While 11 of 16 major sectors advanced, gains remained marginal across the board. Small-cap and mid-cap indexes outperformed the benchmarks, rising 0.9% and 0.3% respectively.
