Indian Rupee Faces Pressure from Oil and Equity Sales
The rupee faces pressure from volatile oil prices and foreign equity outflows. Traders are cautious as mixed signals on Iran cloud the recovery outlook.
The recovery of the rupee in India is set to undergo a rigorous test on Wednesday as market participants navigate a complex landscape of fluctuating energy prices and sustained capital outflows from domestic equity markets. While the currency managed to gain ground in previous sessions, conflicting geopolitical signals and investor caution are currently capping its upward momentum. The 1-month non-deliverable forward indicates the rupee will open in the 91.85 to 91.90 range against the dollar, following a 0.6% rise on Tuesday to 91.8050. Bankers suggest that while central bank intervention has mitigated some downside risks, the currency's ability to hold levels past the 92-per-dollar mark remains uncertain.
