Iran War Drives Up Costs for Indian Bottled Water Makers
Indian water makers are raising prices for resellers as the Iran war increases packaging costs. Retail prices are expected to rise ahead of the summer season.
The conflict involving Iran is disrupting the $5 billion packaged water market in India just as the region enters its high-demand summer season. Manufacturers are facing sharp increases in the costs of plastic bottles, caps, labels, and cardboard boxes due to supply chain volatility and rising oil prices. While major corporations have yet to pass these costs on to consumers, approximately 2,000 smaller producers have already raised prices for distributors by 5%, with a further 10% increase expected in the coming days.
Apurva Doshi, the secretary general of the Federation of All India Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers Association, described the current market environment as highly unstable.
