India allows 15 banks to import gold and silver until 2029
India has authorized 15 top banks to import gold and silver through March 2029. This list includes major lenders like the State Bank of India and HDFC Bank.
The government of India has authorized 15 major financial institutions to import Gold and Silver for a three-year period. According to a government notification released on Friday, this permission is effective from April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2029.

The list of authorized lenders includes the STATE BANK OF INDIA, HDFC BANK LIMITED, and the BANK OF INDIA. These institutions are part of a broader group of 15 banks permitted to manage the import of these precious metals to meet domestic requirements.
This extension of import rights ensures that major banks can maintain their role in the bullion market, providing a stable supply chain for gold and silver. The move aligns with standard regulatory practices to oversee the flow of high-value commodities into the country.
