India markets regulator overhauls mutual fund categories
The regulator introduced new categories like contra and sectoral debt funds on Thursday. Asset managers have six months to align their existing schemes.
The markets regulator in India has overhauled its mutual fund categorisation rules to streamline the investment landscape. This regulatory shift, announced on Thursday, introduces new fund types and requires asset managers to re-evaluate their current offerings. The updated framework features several new categories, most notably contra funds and sectoral debt funds. Additionally, the regulator has incorporated goal-based life cycle funds into the system. These changes are designed to provide investors with a more structured and transparent set of investment choices. Asset management firms have been directed to align all existing schemes with these new categories within a six-month timeframe. This mandate ensures that the entire mutual fund industry in India adheres to the updated standards, promoting consistency across the market.
