India liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption fell 16.2% to 2.2 million metric tons in April. Supply disruptions followed the closure of the Strait of Hormuz after Israel and the United States attacked Iran. With 60% of LPG imported, India's energy security faces pressure as industrial users shift to piped gas alternatives.
### Supply Chain Vulnerabilities in the Middle East Data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) shows imports account for 60% of India's demand. Middle Eastern suppliers provide 90% of these imports, leaving the domestic market exposed to regional maritime blockades. India consumed 33.15 million tons of LPG in 2025, primarily for residential cooking.
