Incoming UK Regulator Head Calls for Balanced AI Approach
Incoming PRA head Braddick told lawmakers that AI risks and benefits must be managed equally. This follows BoE warnings regarding AI cybersecurity threats.
The incoming head of the United Kingdom's prudential regulator for banks and insurers has stated that the financial sector must balance the potential risks and benefits of artificial intelligence. Speaking at a pre-appointment hearing before the parliamentary Treasury Committee on Wednesday, the incoming chief of the Prudential Regulation Authority, Braddick, emphasized a dual approach to the technology. > "My personal view is that we have to, and will be expected to, address equally the threat and the opportunity." The comments come as regulators globally grapple with the rapid integration of AI within financial services. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, who will oversee Braddick’s role, recently highlighted the urgency of understanding new AI models. Bailey noted on Tuesday that these technologies could present significant cybersecurity challenges if not properly managed.
