The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is likely to extend a financial support program to Venezuela as the global lender re-establishes ties with the South American oil exporter. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva stated on Friday that the organization is prepared to deploy a staff team to collaborate with Venezuelan officials, provided specific conditions regarding institutional transparency and data accuracy are met. While the IMF is ready to engage, Georgieva cautioned that the country faces a difficult path toward restoring macroeconomic and financial stability.
