IFC and Fasanara Launch Fund for Women Owned Firms
The initiative uses fintech platforms to provide loans averaging 50,000 dollars to female entrepreneurs. This project aims to bridge a global financing gap.
A new financial initiative backed by the International Finance Corporation and global investment platform Fasanara Capital is set to deploy approximately $100 million to support women-owned small businesses across the developing world. The project emerges as borrowers in emerging markets face a tightening credit environment due to a reduction in Western aid, while private lenders increasingly look toward these regions for higher margins.
The initiative aims to bridge a significant capital divide by offering loans that average $50,000 to thousands of female entrepreneurs. These borrowers will be identified through a network of more than 100 fintech platforms operating in dozens of countries. Fasanara Capital Chief Executive Francesco Filia noted that the effort is expected to attract further institutional capital, though the initial launch is anchored at the $100 million mark.
