Hungary MOL agrees to purchase majority stake in Serbian oil company NIS

HUwill purchase a 56.16 percent stake from the current Russian
RUowners, Gazprom and Gazprom Neft , for a total price of up to 1 billion euros. The agreement was finalized on January 19, 2026, and involves the 44.9 percent interest held by Gazprom Neftand the 11.3 percent share belonging to Gazprom.
The transaction is a critical step for energy security in Serbia
RSfollowing the imposition of sanctions by the United States
USin October 2025. These measures, targeting the energy sector of Russia, halted the delivery of Crude Oil WTI through the Janaf pipeline in Croatia and forced the closure of the only refinery in Serbia. aleksandar vucic noted that the purchase price was established between 900 million and 1 billion euros as part of a move to restore the flow of Crude Oil WTIto the region.
