The German container shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd AG is currently navigating a period of significant financial strain attributed to the ongoing crisis involving Iran. In a statement on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Rolf Habben Jansen disclosed that the company is facing additional weekly expenditures of approximately $40 million to $50 million. These costs are primarily driven by a surge in fuel prices, elevated insurance premiums, and increased storage fees for containers.
