Gold Prices Decline as Dollar Gains and Iran Talks Falter
Gold prices slipped to $4,728.59 per ounce as a stronger dollar and failed U.S.-Iran talks weighed on the market. Higher oil prices are fueling inflation fears.
Gold prices remained under pressure on Monday as a strengthening dollar and the breakdown of peace negotiations weighed on market sentiment. The collapse of weekend talks between the United States and Iran has heightened inflation concerns and clouded the outlook for future interest rate reductions.
Spot gold prices fell 0.4% to $4,728.59 per ounce, reaching their lowest point since early April. Meanwhile, gold futures dropped 0.7% to $4,752.20. The rising value of the greenback has made dollar-priced metals more expensive for international buyers, further dampening demand. Phillip Streible, chief market strategist at Blue Line Futures, noted that the market is currently reacting sharply to geopolitical news.
