Gold eases after divided Fed rate cut vote; silver hits new high

Fed's divided rate cut triggers gold profit-taking while silver surges record high.

Gold edged lower on Thursday as traders digested the U.S.USUS Federal Reserve's divided vote on a quarter-percentage-point interest rate cut, while silver climbed to yet another record high, highlighting diverging trajectories in the precious metals market.
Spot gold fell 0.2% to $4,220.09 per ounce as of 0947 GMT, while U.S. gold futures for February delivery gained 0.5% to $4,247.50 per ounce. The modest decline came after weeks of positioning ahead of the widely anticipated rate decision.
